“We choose our joys and sorrows long before we experience them.” -Kahlil Gibran

What if that were really true? What if your life can be on the pathway to looking and being radically different two weeks, six months, one year from today? What if we really do have more power over creating our future than we think?

I believe that the work of therapy is to help you (re)discover your areas of greatest joy and to chart a path towards attaining a life of meaning, value, and purpose. To do that, however, requires us to lean into the pain and the sorrows. Rather than becoming distracted by a diagnosis, the aim is to figure out what is no longer working for you, and not become trapped in patterns that continue to result in pain and suffering. My goal, then, is to help you become un-stuck, choose your joys, and move freely, fully, and confidently into a life that matters.

My formal education includes a BS from Grambling State, a MS in Marriage and Family Therapy from Fuller Theological Seminary, and a second masters degree and doctorate in psychology from the University of La Verne. I completed a nationally accredited pre-doctoral fellowship at the University of Memphis and a post doctoral fellowship at University Nevada, Reno. My research has focused on ways in which Black women often shift, altering aspects of their identity based on the contexts in which they sit at any given time. This has been an area that is near and dear to my heart, as I have been all to aware of my own shifting behavior and the toll it takes on our well-being. The scale I developed, the African American Women’s Shifting Scale, has been recognized in scientific literature and subsequently been adapted for Latin-x and Asian American women populations.

My clinical expertise has always included working with diverse clients on issues most salient to healthy identity development and expression. I believe that clients are the experts of their own life, and that often it is not a matter of someone not knowing what to do, but how to get it done that is most troubling and frustrating. It is my passion to help draw out what is already on the inside of you, and, if necessary, help you get out of your own way!

So, who am I, you ask? Well, I am a southern California native, Los Angeles to be exact (and yes, native Los Angelenos do exist!). I enjoy getting lost in a good book or being transported to a happy place with music that speaks to my soul. I am known for my boisterous laugh which often announces my presence, and any place in nature is what recharges my spirit.

My hope in life is to help as many as I'm able to experience true freedom and live their best life. I want to utilize all that has been graciously poured into me, to support you in becoming all that you were meant to become.
